There are two times of the year that are more difficult than any other. The first is June, July and August (summer) and the other is December and January (winter). These two times of the year are generally the most difficult in the collection of blood.
The summer time we lose out on the high school blood drives. We also have a few holidays that make it difficult to set up blood drives. Also lots of people go on vacation and are unavailable to donate.
The winter time is probably the most difficult time in my personal opinion. And it is basically due to the fact that Christmas and New Years are very close together. Schools are out, businesses don't want to hold blood drives, people go on vacation and then we also have a higher occurrence of sickness because its that time of year.
The dates I worry about this year are from December 22 to January 9. That is a stretch where it is very difficult to get blood donations.
If you get a chance make a donation between those dates. Hopefully you will have a little extra free time to stop in and donate and give the gift of life!
